Fabulous Fun or in Salman’s words “TOO MUCH FUN”
Pan Asian Restaurants are the rage nowadays, it seems like a new one is opening every month. But Fatty Bao has taken contemporary style Asian Cuisine to another level altogether.
The ambience is casual, cozy & quirky. The eye-catching colours in the decor along with the tea pot lamps reminded me a bit of Guppy.
The hand painted artwork on the walls is mesmerising and adds something extra to the quirky, contemporary theme that the owners were gunning for.
We started with the Asparagus Tempura & Cream Cheese Sushi which was crunchy and had a rich sour taste.
The Duck Pizza was next. Crispy tortilla base loaded with roasted duck meat. It was delectable.
The Brie Tempura smeared with Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese seven-spice mixture) tasted good.
BBQ Chicken Shengjian Bao’s were devoured before I could say “What a Great Bao”.
Loved the Salmon Carpaccio and the Fatty Bao Tuna Tartare.
The Fatty Bao PB&J is their signature pork belly which was cooked to perfection and had a beautiful glaze.
Mushroom and Bell Pepper Open Bao’s were served on cute little wooden planks.
The star of the meal were the Fatty Oysters (oysters broiled with soy butter and ponzu sauce).
In desserts we had the Fatty Hill and the Japanese Cheesecake. The cheesecake along with a berry compote & raspberry sorbet was one of the best I have had in Delhi and Fatty Hill had a decadent chocolate & mint mousse covered with rice crispies, vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate. It was heavenly.
The staff had a thorough knowledge of the menu and the service is very efficient.
The restaurant for now opens only for dinner (7pm onwards), but the manager informed us that in a few weeks they will start opening for lunch also.
The name Fatty Bao is guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows, but you are also guaranteed to be wowed by the awesome food and excellent service. Definitely a Must Visit!!!
